It was no less than an accident that I asked Pratik Shetty that "Is there someone who can coach me to run?" Pat came the reply that existing training camp he attends is already full and if a new batch starts anytime, he will inform me the same.
A new batch started on 2nd August, 2015 and talk about my luck.. i was having a family function at Chennai (70th birthday of my Chitappa) and tickets were booked from 31st July to 4th August...so had to ask for excuse for not attending my very first training. Coach accepted my request and i was allowed to join the batch from 9th August onwards.
The d-day dawned and i was supposed to be on ground at 6.30am (reporting time). For a change, i woke up at 4am (a feat achieved never before in life time)... Reached ground at 6am and started to take Walk at KDMC Dombivli Ground for there was some more time left out. People started gathering around 6.30am.
Met some beautiful people for the first time... To start with Mr. Suhas Bhopi sir (Coach), Satish Kalbende sir, Samir Kulkarni, Devendra Mane, Harikrishnan Iyer, Sumit Kabra, Anushka, Sundar Gowda,
Suhas sir seemed to be a down to earth person with good knowledge of sports. The day started with basic introduction of each. After introduction, i knew I was the odd man out because all my colleagues were already running half marathon, ultra run and just needed a fine tune.,.. i was a beginner in all regards. But i had made my mind to be part of this enthusiastic group.
The day started with streching exercises and slow jogging of the KDMC ground - 3 rounds. It might have been very easy for others but it was a big thing for me as I was running for the first time. As soon as run started, a heat begin from my calf muscles upto my back. I thought I may not be able to complete a single round but somehow managed to complete the 3 rounds of 500m each.
Again it was time for streching exercises and run of 5 rounds of the same ground. I could barely run even a single round, but coach told me to mix walk and run and complete 4 rounds... could complete the schedule of the day somehow.
Suhas Sir explained that Monday should be rest day for all as it would adversely affect body. If it was to be difficult for others, my situation was not only bad it was worst. But the day went off smoothly, could not move much through the evening and same was the situation for Monday throughout. My mind was saying enough for the day, hang up the boots....Running was not made for me, I thought. The days to follow were going to change the future course of action of my life in any way - positive or negative.
With lots of hope in heart and positivity in mind
