Third Week

23rd August 2015

Another sunday... another funfilled action expected.

Went to training ground at 6.15am and saw suhas sir playing kabbadi with Sumit and within no time joined the fun with those guys for 10-15 minutes.

Today we had 100% attendance - sundar, sumit, samir, hari, dev, anusksha, satish sir, myself and suhas sir had all come on time and after jogging for 5 rounds (I jogged for 3 rounds and took rest because of my leg pain) started with our regular streching exercises.

After regular workouts, Suhas sir gave an uncommon workout at steps at KDMC ground. We were supposed to take rounds of the steps up and down for 10 minutes which was very much strainful on the thighs. I did it by walking for few minutes and jogging for another few more minutes. Samir pulled out because of knee problem, Satish sir was with me mixing walk and run effectively. Dev was given a workout which was different from ours which included squats at the end of each round. Hari and sundar were consistent and leading the way as experts in that field and running for many years. Anuksha did not do steps, instead she was given 200m sprint by Suhas sir and she had different people for company.. including samir and sumit. The last part of Step workout was the most difficult one as one had to pick up another partner on his back and reach the top of the steps. I first took the easy way out picking up satish sir's 6 year old daughter and climbed the stairs. It was really difficult and others too completed with too much of weight behind their backs. Sumit opted out because of knee problem. I tried it once again and completed the task with hari on my back... overall it was fun for all of us. A sort of bonding is created by such activities and we all thank Suhas sir for the same.

But we all know, the results of sunday generally show up on Mondays.... we remember every act of sunday.

After having leisure talks, we all dispersed for our weekly routine.

24th August, Monday:  Rest day, the Best Day for all of us.

25th August, Tuesday: I was given the workout of running for 30 minutes by Suhas sir for the day. I could run for 25mins at strech and covered for 2.7kms. Was a pleasing experience for me personally because I could run for such a long period.

26th August, Wednesday: Today as per schedule I was supposed to mix walk and slow jog for 5 minutes on repetitive basis. Because of rains i had kept my mobile in my waist bag rather than the arm band, there was a difference in my calculation and the distance as shown by Nike+. For me i had covered 4kms in a time of around 40minutes but mobile showed it as 3.05kms only. Whatever, the best part was I could fulfill my task convincingly.

27th August, Thursday: The schedule was to run for 30minutes continuosly. Again because of keeping mobile inside my waterbottle pouch, there was a difference in distance covered. I thought i had covered 4kms but it showed 3.22kms only. Techincally, i have not covered 4kms distance as per my gadget but personally I have covered this distance which was my target for the month of August twice this week. So a happy day for me.

28th August, Friday: I was suggested streching exercises for the day and no run. Did streching for around 1 hour which included regualr exercises with certain asan in yoga and also crunches. Felt good after the same.

29th August, Saturday: It was Rakshabandhan day and many of our colleagues had decided to run long distance at Badlapur Highway. I was supposed to join the lot but Friday was annual function at  AKADEMIA and reached home late night, so did not participate in the run. Many of our friends ran their heart out as a final practice ahead of Satara Marathon on 6th September, 2015,

Since i had to attend Avnyavattam at Model school by 8.30am, i missed on my regular workout of running 30 minutes for the day. A rest day from running.

Second Week of Training

16th August:
Reported @ 6.30am at KDMC MIDC ground alongwith Pratik Shetty for my company. About Pratik Shetty, he was my student for 5 years from XI com to Bcom and was my student while doing CA - Foundation and Intermediate. He was a sports person right from childhood. A football player he was, he took active participation in sports. He was instrumental and one of the pioneers for formation of Kalyan Dombivli Runners group.

Met Veera sir, with whom had so many chats through Facebook messenger, a stalwart in the field of running for the past 6 years. Has immense knowlegde of running, its impact and other things and always takes lead for promoting running in a big way and had played a major role in motivating me personally. He was instrumental for registering my name at Vasai Virar Marathon for 11kms on 22nd Novemeber 2015, followed by 6km dream run at SCMM mumbai. Felt very happy to meet him at personal level.

Also met Rashi Kadam and few more people who were participants of Saturday Training batch.

Training started sharp at 6.30am as Suhas sir is always very punctual. No running for the day but many exercises specially streching exercises were the order of the day with exercise including football and field marks. After the schedule, the day was converted into joyous mood.

With the three Ultra participants Hari, Dev and Dr. Rajkumar joining us alongwith Dr. Shobha Patil and the likes of Ameya (Who had completed half Iron man at Chennai) and Parag (who completed cycling at Leh for 10 days), the mood was jubliant. Also Gaurav Bharadwaj, Tushar, Mandar and few more people joined the party.

A felicitation of podium finisher Ms. Shruti Swamy and Ultra participants, Ameya and Parag was done and everybody enjoyed the taste of Idlis brought for the day.

A day to remember for me personally for time to come.

Suhas sir said to continue the same schedule as he had given me last week.

Monday has become the best day for me in a week because its rest day. On a serious note, the schedule was to be followed and distance was to be increased. Pratik gave me a hint and I got NIKE plus installed in my Iphone to record, distance covered, time and calories burnt.

Things were easier for me to note down:-

18th August, Tuesday - 3.09kms covered over 31.36minutes at an average pace of 10'13"/km
Break up was 1.5km run - 300m walk - 900m run - 300m walk

20th August, Thursday - 3.13kms covered over 25.53 minutes at average speed of 8'15"/km
1.5kms run - 200 walk - 1.2km run - 200 m walk

21st August, Friday - Tried to test my limit and ran a distance of 3.69km at an average pace of  8'15"/km with break up of 2km run - 200m walk - 500m run - 100m walk - 500m run - 100m walk - 300m run - 100m walk... but in the process aggrevated pain in shin muscle.

22nd August, Saturday - The pain yesterday resulted in a slow workout... average pace was 10'10"/km and ran for 32.11 minutes covering only 3.16km. The breakup was 2km run -150m walk - 1km run. The pain left its mark.

Informed veera sir over fb messenger and suhas sir over wattsapp.

Both advised for ice treatment for 20mins 3 times a day. Waiting for tomorrow to meet them personally and know more about the same.

My First Week

After the first day at ground, Monday was hectic but I had made my mind to run and woke up early on Tuesday Morning.

Suhas sir had given a personal workout chart which was a mix of slow jog for 5min and walk for 5min for the coming week.

Tuesday, 11th August

My first day at ground...I walked for 300m and ran 300m. Was huffing and puffing after my first round and could not think for anything more. But as sir told, walked for another 300m and ran 300m again. That was it for the day. Completed 1.2km the first day of my run.
Felt a lot happy, as I could complete my task.

Wednesday, 12th August
Was pumped up to complete my task.. today my mind was ready for more grilling work. Started my workout with eagerness and had an aim to complete atleast yesterdays workout. At the end, I was elated for the fact that my workout could better yesterday's performance. I ran 400m and walked 300m for 2 sets. Total distance covered 1.4km.

Thursday, 13th August
My personal performance yesterday had motivated me to better my set records. Took 5 rounds at KDMC "D" ground of 100m continuously and walked for 200m. Completed 2 set of 500m and 1 set of 300m and walked approx 300m in between the runs. Total kms covered 2kms. Was happy at the end of the day. All well and looking forward for betterment of set records.

Friday, 14th August
Started the day with target of same distance in mind. Confidence was at my peak and I could easily cover the distance. Infact, in my schedule of half an hour workout, i covered more than 2 kms.

Satuday, 15th August
A big day, being Independence Day of our country. With national pride flying high in my heart was pumped up. Covered the distance of 2kms and did necessary streching and wound up for the day.

A big day for my new colleagues, Dev and Hari, as they had participated at Mumbai Ultra Marathon, a run for 12 hours from 5am to 5pm.

When I am just born in this world of running having a life of 5 days my colleagues ran 12 hours. A huge morale booster for me to move ahead and explore this world where a person needs will to achieve his target.

One week of consistency and I was excited for the 2nd training tomorrow i.e. 16th August. A big day for me personally because, Saturday and Sunday training batches were to be conducted together and I could get a chance to meet my other colleagues at KDR.

Running though a physical act is purely a mind game, I understood that day.

My first day at Training

It was no less than an accident that I asked Pratik Shetty that "Is there someone who can coach me to run?" Pat came the reply that existing training camp he attends is already full and if a new batch starts anytime, he will inform me the same.

A new batch started on 2nd August, 2015 and talk about my luck.. i was having a family function at Chennai (70th birthday of my Chitappa) and tickets were booked from 31st July to 4th August...so had to ask for excuse for not attending my very first training. Coach accepted my request and i was allowed to join the batch from 9th August onwards.

The d-day dawned and i was supposed to be on ground at 6.30am (reporting time). For a change, i woke up at 4am (a feat achieved never before in life time)... Reached ground at 6am and started to take Walk at KDMC Dombivli Ground for there was some more time left out. People started gathering around 6.30am.

Met some beautiful people for the first time... To start with Mr. Suhas Bhopi sir (Coach), Satish Kalbende sir, Samir Kulkarni, Devendra Mane, Harikrishnan Iyer, Sumit Kabra, Anushka, Sundar Gowda,

Suhas sir seemed to be a down to earth person with good knowledge of sports. The day started with basic introduction of each. After introduction, i knew I was the odd man out because all my colleagues were already running half marathon, ultra run and just needed a fine tune.,.. i was a beginner in all regards. But i had made my mind to be part of this enthusiastic group.

The day started with streching exercises and slow jogging of the KDMC ground - 3 rounds. It might have been very easy for others but it was a big thing for me as I was running for the first time. As soon as run started, a heat begin from my calf muscles upto my back. I thought I may not be able to complete a single round but somehow managed to complete the 3 rounds of 500m each.

Again it was time for streching exercises and run of 5 rounds of the same ground. I could barely run even a single round, but coach told me to mix walk and run and complete 4 rounds... could complete the schedule of the day somehow.

Suhas Sir explained that Monday should be rest day for all as it would adversely affect body. If it was to be difficult for others, my situation was not only bad it was worst. But the day went off smoothly, could not move much through the evening and same was the situation for Monday throughout. My mind was saying enough for the day, hang up the boots....Running was not made for me, I thought. The days to follow were going to change the future course of action of my life in any way - positive or negative.

With lots of hope in heart and positivity in mind
